Description
Located in Chelsea, The Wilson is a chic seafood-centric restaurant and bar that has made waves for its over-the-top dog-friendly offerings. Part of the INNSIDE by Meliá hotel, The Wilson features a stylish indoor dining room and a spacious outdoor patio on West 27th Street – and it’s on that patio where pups are treated to a true fine-dining experience. In 2019, The Wilson launched an exclusive dog menu that garnered headlines for its gourmet flair (think a 16-ounce grilled ribeye steak for $42, grilled salmon, or even a dog-friendly “pupsicle” for dessert).
This initiative underscores The Wilson’s philosophy: it’s not just pet-friendly, it’s pet-pampering. Dogs seated at the patio are served water immediately and can dine from porcelain bowls. The ambiance at The Wilson manages to be trendy yet relaxed – blue-and-white striped umbrellas and modern patio furnishings give it a Hamptons vibe, and there’s usually a fashionable after-work crowd sipping cocktails. Yet, you’ll also spot plenty of wagging tails under the tables. “Oh, to be a New York City dog!”, one writer quipped about The Wilson’s canine offerings.
Four-legged guests here feast as well as the humans. The human menu leans New American (truffle pastas, fresh oysters, creative tacos) with coastal influences, and the staff are attentive to all guests, furry or otherwise. With ample space and a fun, social atmosphere, The Wilson is as much a destination for pet owners as it is for foodies.

Special Offers
Dogs are welcome on the large outdoor patio and at sidewalk tables. Technically, dogs aren’t allowed inside the main indoor restaurant space due to health codes; however, The Wilson’s patio is adjacent to the hotel’s open-air courtyard and even has some covered sections, so pups are comfortable in all seasons. There is no size limit – everything from Pomeranians to Great Pyrenees have enjoyed The Wilson’s hospitality. Management kindly asks that dogs be leashed and generally remain at floor level (no dogs on chairs or tables for health reasons), but you’ll often see small dogs in laps or in carrier bags and that’s acceptable. The Wilson is part of a pet-friendly hotel, so staff are very accustomed to dogs; even if you walk through the hotel lobby with your pup to reach the patio, it’s allowed. Cats and other pets could sit outside too, but it’s predominantly a dog scene here.
The Wilson gained fame for its chef-crafted dog menu.
Highlights include a $42 grilled ribeye steak (sized to share between multiple pups or a dog & owner), a grilled chicken breast with rice, or a bowl of steamed salmon and veggies – all served unseasoned and dog-safe. For a lighter treat, they have “pupcakes” and frozen peanut-butter yogurt pupsicles in the summer
Waitstaff will gladly bring out these special items for your dog, and many patrons come specifically for the novelty of treating their dog to a fancy meal. Water bowls are a given, and the kitchen can even prepare a custom item if your dog has dietary needs (they’ve done plain steamed rice or scrambled eggs upon request). The patio’s layout is such that there’s room between tables for dogs to stretch out, and the hotel can provide cushions if you’d like one for your dog to lie on.
The Wilson also offers heated outdoor seating in winter, so the pet-friendly space is open year-round. The staff here are true animal lovers – expect plenty of attention, photos, and maybe even a feature on The Wilson’s Instagram, which often spotlights its canine customers.
